Going by the recent disappointing run of rom-coms at the Box Office, fans are bound to have their doubts for the latest ‘Ghosts of Girlfriends Past’ boasting of the same genre. But once that initial glitch is overcome and one braves the act to hit the theater for this one, it’s a sure shot of breeze.
Doing perfect justice to its genre, the film is a delight to watch as it mixes all the elements that go into the making of an ideal fantasy romance drama. It’s swishy, fun at some places even a little too melodramatic and predictable but over all it leaves the audience feeling content and smiling.
On the onset ‘Ghosts of Girlfriends Past’ appears to be just another cheesy, wishy-washy love flick with its womanizing don’t-believe-in-love protagonist. But watch this one and the twist in the plot line coupled with praiseworthy performances are bound to add depth to this cliché idea.
Staring on the film revolves around big-shot celeb photographer Connor Mead ( played Matthew McConaughey). Mead is a sweet-talking womanizer, who uses his boyish charms and killer looks to hook on with girls only to break their hearts and leave them teary.
Living his dream life and worshipping his late Casanova uncle Wayne (played Michael Douglas), everything was going perfect for Mead until one day he goes to attend his brother’s marriage. Bumping into his first love Jenny (played by Jennifer Garner) Mead goes week kneed at her sight.
Making matters worse is the sudden visit by his uncle’s ghost along with the ghosts of Mead’s past girlfriends. Forcing him to change his ways, hilarity follows as Mead is forced to see his past mistakes and the heartbreak he caused.
As per performances Jennifer Garner is looking her effervescent self and McConaughey is at his charming best. A one time watch for sure, this rom-com offers the feel good factor.
Rating: Three cheers for this one!
